Count the occurences of the current year in a range

I have a single column of dates which show when a job was completed.
This has a named dynamic range of 'DDR_Jobs_Completed'.
The date is formatted as 01/12/2012 and the dyamic range is working OK elsewhere.
 
I wish to count the number of jobs completed for the current year, and place the answer in a summary sheet.
 
My first thoughts were =COUNTIF(DDR_Jobs_Completed,YEAR(TODAY())) but this is not working! It returns 0 when there are many 2012 dates within the range.
 
A second requirement will be a total number of jobs completed last year, presumably using something like YEAR(TODAY())-1
 
With a New Year on the horizon, I want the transition to be automatic.
