Fast Solution to Problem: Backup failures: Going round in circles: Pick an error message.

Backup failures: Going round in circles: Pick an error message.

Since getting a new computer with Ultimate installed all backup attempts have failed, giving a selection of different error messages.  In spite of attempting various 'fixes' proposed, the problem is still unsolved and now seems to be going round in circles.
The following is a summary of the problem and attempted fixes.
Note that after each attempted fix I ran backup, which failed.

The first error message received was 0x81000037, which points to a 'junction point' problem.
I reset the Windows backup files configuration using Reset_Back_Up_Files.zip
I ran backup with AV disabled I ran the AV to check for viruses - none found.
I ran the MS-suggested virus/malware/registry cleaner programs and made corrections/deletions as suggested.
One backup attempt gave the 0x8078012D error, suggesting that there was a device error and recommending running chkdsk/ r to overcome this problem.
I ran chkdsk /r on the c: drive and two separate external HDs that I'd tried to run backup to, retried backup
which again failed, again with the 0x8078012D message.  I tried backing up to d:\, which is on the same HD as C:\, but it failed again, this time giving the 0x81000037 error message.
I deleted the c:\ProgramData\Desktop' junction point using the 'fsutil reparsepoint
delete c:\ProgramData\Desktop command.

With the above giving no success, I reinstalled Win 7 Ultimate, tried to run backup again and got the following sequential failures:
0x8078012D error message.
I ran chkdsk on both C: and the external drives, no problems identified, ran backup and again got a  0x8078012D message
I 'unchecked' the 'Include a system image of drives: System Reserved, (C:)' box, ran backup and got a 0x81000037 message
I 'checked' the  'Include a system image of drives: System Reserved, (C:)' box, ran backup and got a 0x8078012D message.

I don't know if the following facts are relevant, but just in case they are:
The new computer is running Win 7 Ultimate, 64 bit I had no problem backing up the same data and settings with Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my previous computer
I transferred the files, settings, etc.
from the 32 bit computer to the 64 bit computer using Windows Easy Transfer
I have a RAID 1 setup on the new computer, which was not present on the old computer.

I am at a total loss as to where to go from here to resolve the problem which, judging from various postings to the community, is being experienced by a number of other folk.

HELP!

Keys to the Problem Backup failures: Going round in circles: Pick an error message.

Download Error Fixer (Free)

Hi,

The backup completed successfully.
I reinstalled Smart6 and did another successful backup, so it looks like Spybot was the problem.
That said, the problem could be due to an incompatibility between Defender and Spybot rather than Spybot itself.  Whatever the
reason, I won't reinstall Spybot.  I hope this helps other folk with similar problems.

Regards, and thanks for your input,

zestron
