CHKDSK will not run on Flash Drive
Hello,
I need to run chkdsk /f on a flash drive. Windows tells me the drive is mounted so I say (Yes) to dismount it. Then it says it is in use and will run chkdsk on the next restart. I say (Yes) to that also. Then on restart it does not run chkdsk /f or
any other chkdsk, it completely ignores the flash drive at restart.
I have XP Home SP3 with all the updates to current date, do not have .NET Framework (hard drive too small), and otherwise the system works OK.
From time to time these flash drives have problems such as files disappearing, and access denied, so I really need to chkdsk these flash drives before using them to backup the system. I use the flash drives at school to download files and save other work
so the school security levels might have put an effect on the drives, or a virus, who knows. They don't know. Sometimes downloads and saving work at school works and sometimes it doesn't. I cannot use the Microsoft Flash Drive manager because I do not really
want to put .NET Framework on this small netbook.
How can this problem be cleared up ? I think the flash drives need to stay away from the school computers because they seem to be one source of problems regarding their operation, unfortunately. Anyway, I need to chkdsk from Windows XP and really verify
that these drives are working OK because I need to use them to backup the system once.
I searched for an answer but could not find anything that was specific to this type of chkdsk problem.
