Cannot connect to internet with WIRED connection

Since upgrading to Win 7 I have had problems connecting to the internet periodically.
 I am using my desktop computer with a WIRED connection.
 Prior to Win 7, I was using XP and did not have any connection problems.
 From time to time the internet works,
and works great.
 I thought maybe my modem was down, but my wireless connection will still work on my laptop and I can get online with my XBOX as well.
 I tried updating my drivers, but this did not help.
 Restarting the computer will help for the initial
connection, but after browsing a few pages I still get "DNS Error--Cannot connect to server" or "Server Not Found."  I have tried using different browsers to see if it would help (Chrome, IE (32 & 64 bit), Firefox) all have the same problem.
 I don't understand
why my WIRED connection won't work when I can still connect on my laptop anywhere in my home while the problem persists.
 And of course when running the troubleshooter "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem."  Please help!

1. Click on start and type in cmd in the search box.
2. Right click on the command prompt shortcut and select “Run as administrator”.
3. Enter these commands one at a time  in the command prompt and press enter.
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
 exit
If the issue is not fixed then try disabling IPV6, follow the steps below to do the same;

Right click the Network Connection icon in the Notification Area > Open Network and Sharing Center

On the left hand pane, click "Change Adapter Settings"

Right click on your Network connection in question (should be called Local Area Connection if hard-wired) > Properties
4.
Uncheck the box under "The Connection Uses the following items:" that says Internet Protocol Version 6.
