After installing Windows 7 Pro Navigation buttons do not work all the time.

I recently just installed Windows 7 Pro on my desktop PC and at this point I have the following installed

Windows 7 with all updates
MS Office 2007 with all updates
AVG Anitvirus 9 plus firewall
Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
Trillian

The problem I am having is in Internet explorer 8 Only the navigation buttons for Forward and back do not function.  I have sometimes gotten them to work after shutting down and restarting IE8 but that does not work all the time.  I have tried disabling all
add-on's and clearing the cache and all history but these have no effect.  I can use the backspace key and the back button on my mouse and they work fine all the time.  It is just annoying since I am used to using the back button on the browser.

Do the back and forward navigation buttons not work only with certain websites or all the websites?
2.
Were the navigation buttons working fine before?
3.
Since when have you had this issue?

Try the following methods and check if your issue gets fixed.
 
Method 1:
 
Some Web sites are designed for older browsers.
You may experience compatibility issues on these sites until they are updated for Internet Explorer 8.
 
Try running Internet Explorer in compatibility mode if that fixes your issue.

Method 2:
 
If the problem is caused by damaged or incompatible Internet Explorer settings or add-ons, you can usually resolve the problem by resetting Internet Explorer settings.

1.            Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer (if it is running).
2.            Click Start,
type the following command in the
Start Search box, and then press ENTER:
 
inetcpl.cpl
The Internet Options dialog box appears
 
3.            Click the Advanced tab.
4.            Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click
Reset.
Then click Reset again.
5.            When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click
Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
6.            Start Internet Explorer again.

Machine Throttling

• Click the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "regedit" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Look for the following registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions".
